Personal Statement :
I have been teaching high school algebra/geometry for 8 years. I have not only a natural gift for mental math, but I am also able to relate to the teenage student. My background in the subject is solid, and I work hard to establish a good working relationship with each student in order to make the subject matter re relatable. I\'ve worked with a wide range of abilities from special education students to the advanced gifted ones. I am able to explain math in a variety of ways and present it in a way that makes sense at a student level. I work hard to explain the WHY and HOW of problems and not just the mechanics. Mechanics come easy when the concept is understood first. I want math to make sense to the student, not just a rule to follow. I ask a lot of questions when necessary to get a sense of the student\'s prior knowledge and to give them things to think about to better answer the question themselves the next time. Math is not about going through the tions, but rather about understanding why processes work.
